Procedures

It is important to note that the process takes time because of the remote location of the Islands and the fact that there are a lot of preparation and compliance activities required. Therefore, it is important that you start the process as early as possible (See our shipping dates section to find out how long it takes and latest order dates for a particular voyage or for goods to arrive before a specific date).

If you have a shopping list of items that you wish us to quote for, or simply buy at best prices and ship for you please detail the items in the form found on our CONTACT page and we will acknowledge your request and provide the necessary response in the shortest time possible. Alternatively just write your needs in an Email addressed to Sales@zedcore.co.za

If on the other hand you have goods that you have already purchased or have personal effects to be shipped to St Helena, you need to let us know as soon as possible because space is limited in a given container (We operate a ‘first come, first served’ basis). We need to know:

Approximate volume of your goods (length, width and height measurements allow you/us to calculate this)

Description of the items (IE, Furniture, clothing, electrical fittings, plumbing goods, etc.)

Hazardous or Dangerous goods will be treated separately and permission first sought. (Please see our description of what are classified as hazardous goods)

A disclaimer document will be required to be signed before the goods are shipped (much as you must accept before boarding an airline flight)

The Steps you will need to follow are as follows:

  •  Contact us with details of your needs and we will send you a quotation,
  •  If the quote is to your liking, place a firm order in writing,
  •  Make payment against the quotation/Proforma invoice
  •  Complete the indemnity form and send to us (form found _______)
  •  Await the arrival of your goods

Hazardous Goods

The shipping line is at risk when moving Hazardous or Dangerous goods and we need to apply to them for permission to carry such goods on any particular voyage. In doing so they are governed by the IMDG Code or International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code

This code describes it as an offence to ship Hazardous or Dangerous goods without notifying the shipping line and this responsibility is passed on to Zedcore and we have to ensure that any containers or individual consignments we send are classified according to the classifications in the code.

We then, need to be made aware of any goods that you hope to have forwarded, either by air or sea, that may be classified as hazardous or dangerous goods. Failure to advise us of such items in your consignment could lead to Zedcore and yourself being prosecuted.

The shipment of dangerous goods by sea is regulated in order to prevent injury to persons or damage to ships and their cargos. Shipment of marine pollutants is also designed to prevent harm to the marine environment.

Hazardous goods include the following:

Ammunition, Fireworks, Fire lighters, Paint, Thinners, Adhesives, Aerosols of any kind, Certain Oils, Batteries, Lighter Fuel, Acids, Explosives, Detonators, Distress Flares, Oxygen and Acetylene Cylinders, Compressed Air Cylinders, Butane Gas, and more. Please refer to the information found at the above IMDG link for the full list.

If you are hoping to ship such goods you will have to advise us at least two weeks ahead of the dates published on the Shipping dates page.

It is important for you to note that goods received by Zedcore for freight forwarding are not insured. It is your own responsibility to ensure that adequate insurance cover is obtained either by your own insurers or via ourselves if you request a quotation for such cover.
